Hiʻolani Care Center at Kāhala Nui is available for seniors, age 62 and older, who want to live in an environment that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit.
Assisted Living
Residents who reside in Assisted Living at Hiʻolani Care Center enjoy the privacy of their own suites with everything necessary for a comfortable, island lifestyle. Licensed nurses and Resident Care Assistants are available 24/7 should assistance be required through a call-pendent system that notifies the Hiʻolani staff when help is needed. Suites can be custom furnished and decorated with personal touches of home. One bedroom and studio suites feature a kitchenette, individual climate control and a private bathroom fitted with safety features including a built-in shower chair and grab bars.

Memory Support
An active mind is a healthy mind. At Hiʻolani Care Center, Memory Support is provided through attentive, professional care and a customized program of activities, specifically designed for Residents experiencing memory loss. Exercise, entertainment, group games, Music & Memory, art therapy and other activities keep our Residents engaged, stimulating cognitive skills and critical thinking. Residents are encouraged to decorate their suites with familiar objects to keep them connected to their favorite memories.
All suites feature individual climate control and a private bathroom, fitted with a built-in shower chair and grab bars. A specialized security alert system and other safety devices allow our Residents to enjoy a secure environment without feeling restricted.

Nursing
Comprehensive Nursing at Hiʻolani Care Center combines comfortable living with person-centered health care. An interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals with expertise in long-term care provide Residents with either skilled nursing care or custodial long-term care 24 hours a day. Residents enjoy the comfort of fully-furnished, private and semi-private rooms that can be decorated to feel like home. Daily meals are prepared in accordance with guidelines from their physician and an in-house dietician which can be customized to suit individual dietary restrictions and personal preferences.
A sense of community enriches the Nursing center, with ample opportunities for socialization, activities, exercise and therapeutic pet visits – all encouraged to promote physical and spiritual wellness.

Medical Director
Dr. Eric K.S. Yee
Hiʻolani Care Center’s Medical Director, Eric K.S. Yee, M.D.,CMD, is a graduate of the University of Virginia Medical School and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania, an affiliate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Yee began his medical practice on Kauaʻi in 1986, engaging in full spectrum Family Medicine. He became certified in Geriatric Medicine in 1992 and a Certified Medical Director with the American Medical Directors Association in 1996.
He returned with his family to Oʻahu in 2007 so that his children could pursue educational opportunities. He is presently employed with Straub Clinic and Hospital practicing Family and Geriatric Medicine, and continues to serve as Medical Director for Garden Isle Healthcare and Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on Kauaʻi.
Associate Medical Director
Dr. Cody Takenaka
Hiʻolani Care Center Associate Medical Director, Cody Takenaka, MD, MS, CMD is a graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine. Dr. Takenaka was born and raised in Hawaiʻi. She currently practices Geriatric Medicine in the Nursing Home setting and serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaiʻi Department of Geriatrics. Dr. Takenaka is passionate about teaching and works to train the next generation of medical professionals the joys and nuances of caring for elderly patients.
